Stays and new embroidery pics
I finally overcame the fear and started my stays binding yesterday. I'm using doubled bias strips of white cotton broadcloth. It's very nice, tight and fine. I got it at Treadle Yard Goods.
I had a little trouble getting it to ease around the tabs at first; the first two tabs I bound had big ugly folds in the binding, the third tab I did looked a little better, with a few smaller folds, then by the time I got to the fourth tab, I had figured out the easing and stretching idea, and I did a couple more tabs that looked okay. I didn't want to rip the binding off the first few tabs, but it bugged me so much I did anyway.
I'm also making progress in chopping up summer dresses. Still trying to be prodcutive!

Here's the front, with the left few tabs nicely bound and the right few waiting to be re-sewn:

You can also see where I added a few more boning channels in bewteen the existing ones in front; with some of them there wasn't enough room to go all the way down, so I did the best I could!
Here's the inside:

It's a bit fiddly, but I'm enjoying doing the tabs anyway. it's calm, soothing handwork that I can do while I watch movies.
I started the new embroidery project on Sunday. Here's my design sketch:

I based the basic shape on the image in Colorful Stitchery and the details on pictures of various dragonflies I found on the internet. I added the long antennae; dragonflies don't actually have those (at least none of the ones I looked at) but I really like them! So there they are.
I've done the outlining and some of the satin-stitch fill on the body:

I can't decide which orange to use for the wings. And I might put another green outline on to emphasize the color. The fabric is a lovely, nubbly handwoven silk, also from Treadle. I couldn't get chalk to work on it, it's too textured, so I just thread-traced the center line and a few other reference lines instead of tracing the whole design, and I'm referring to the sketch as I sew.
