Star quilt is quilted
Jul. 23rd, 2009 02:00 pmHey look! It's done!

I spent all day yesterday quilting it, then about an hour and a half yesterday and today cutting and applying the binding. I actually mitered the corners this time, which I've never done before. The miters look okay, but not great enough to share a detail photo of. I think after 4 of them, I got the hang of it, though, so hopefully it will look better next time. The edge is a little wavy, too, but I don't really care.
I had to supress the urge to just quilt the crap out of it; I wanted to keep as much distance as possible between quilting lines so it would end up soft and fluffy instead of stiff and crisp. I think I quilted the center block a little too densely; I was getting carried away. As I went on, I made an effort to keep the quilting spaced out. The largest unquilted areas are the pink star points, with lines at most 4" apart.
I'm still waiting to finish the 9-patch until I can buy some solid cotton for setting the blocks. I 'made' some flannel blankets this afternoon since I had some time. Just a few rectangles of ugly (but soft!) old cotton flannel which I finished with a machine overcast or mock serger stitch.
I think I might try to start another quilt with something else in the stash while I wait to finish the 9-patch. I should probably clean in there before I start rummaging in the piecework bin, though.
