Victorian dress for my 3 year old
Jun. 2nd, 2013 09:27 amI'm project-hopping again, because our Victorian Picnic is in a week and my girl has nothing to wear. I like to make her costumes at the last minute anyway in case she has an unexpected growth spurt.
I'm copying this image from a fashion plate in the Harper's book, one that has been my favorite since forever. It's described as a dress for a girl 2-4 years of age. Perfect!

I'm using a purple textured cotton for the main body, because last week when I bought the fabric she said her favorite color was purple. She changes her mind about her favorite color about every 5 minutes (currently it's black*) but the purple looks okay. I have some lavender cotton grosgrain ribbon to trim the square neckline.

I thought about making lined scallops for the two underlayers, but that seemed way too fiddly, so I just applied some scalloped cotton lace (from the stash) to the cotton lawn pieces for the underskirt. The dress is cut out and I bought some red coral beads for a necklace for her, now I just need to sew it up!
* A few days ago she asked me to make her "a black dress with black flowers on it," and I thought, oh dear, I have a baby goth.
