little dresses

Last week I spent some time making dresses for The Girl. I used the same pattern for all of them, Simplicity 2828 (I am sure I got this for free at some point) and fabrics entirely from the stash.
First one. She chose this fabric from the stash before I even opened the bin. I was hoarding it for myself, but oh well. She has good taste anyway. Invisible zip in back. Stripe matching looks pretty good if I do say so myself.

Next one. The skirt is recycled from a skirt I made myself years ago that never fit properly. It's a Kaffe Fassett shot stripe. The bodice is a shot cotton.

She was having WAY too much fun posing.

Third One. I chose this cute floral from the stash for her. I have a ton of it for some reason. It's your standard quilting weight. I was worried it might be too stiff, but it works. I added tiny cap sleeves, changed the neckline to a scoop, and gathered instead of pleated the skirt.
Here she is looking at herself in the mirror.

I have no idea what this flipper hands pose was supposed to mean.

For this one I used a regular (centered) zipper, which I almost never do, but I had one in the drawer. It looks okay but I still prefer invisibles.

Things learned:
It feels good to finally make her something new! And it's always easier for me to crank stuff out in groups like this. Now I am in the middle of a group of T-shirts for her. After that, maybe some pants and then I will take a break from kid clothes for a while.

Things learned:
- Just line the whole bodice. It's SO much easier than fiddling with bias tape and facings at the neck and armhole for sleeveless.
- When you line the bodice, leave the side seams unsewn so you can line both the neckline and armholes.
- Chest sizes tend to fit 'true' for F, but I always need to add a little length. Always!
