Random things and photos
Weekend's progress:
Went to a fabulous little yarn shop with
undycatthat I never knew existed called 3 Kittens. They are the only place I've ever seen locally that carries wool and silk embroidery threads, and they had a huge selection! They had lots of cool knitting yarns, too. It's in Lilydale, which is just south of the river from St. Paul, off 35E. It's my new favorite fiber shop!
Now I'm determined to finish the squares and bars pillow so I can start something new with all my new threads! I pulled it out and took photos of it just for the heck of it:
This weekend I also finally finished my red silk corset.

I think it turned out okay, except that the bottom of the bust gore doesn't blend quite as smoothly as I would like.
The fit is really comfortable though. I haven't measured in this yet, but I think it cinches my waist less than my balck corset, which is what I wanted. This is probably the best-fitting corset I have ever made!
I finally got around to taking pictures of my mitten!
And I also made a little orange basket for the kitchen.
It's square this time!

I made it to hold container lids in the kitchen:

I feel so productive! Today I still need to catch up on some mending and some more loose ends, but I'm still eager to start on a real new project. Hopefully soon!

On the left: things form the 10 items for $1 bin, including 5 cards of nice silk thread I hope to dye; in the center: 3 skeins of fine black wool, 2 cards of white linen, 2 skeins of the awesomest blue silk/wool blend (I actually have plans for those ones); on the right: a bunch of Paternayan wool thread, which was relatively inexpensive and nice.

The design sketch, which I took from photo of a pillow in a book at the library of 19-teens Arts and Crafts style decorating.

It's been a couple months since I worked on this, but I just have a little outlining left. The colors I'm working with are on the left.

About 2/3 done! The thumb stitches are on the left on a holder.

I want to finish the squares and bars embroidery before I work on this much more.

Don't worry about the bust gore - I didn't notice until you pointed it out to me.

I'm not really free this week, but do you want to try to get together next week? I'm free after 3:30pm W&Th and after 5 on fri. I haven't seen you in a long time and it'd be great to catch up!
**I'd also like to chat dresses, but that's minor. The thing is that my dress has cap-sleeves (http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=grace+kelly&keywordType=any&pageSize=8&page=1&style=J135) and I really want the bridesmaides to have something similar rather than something strapless or too modern. Though I'm not going for truly historical, I kinda want it to be a "classic/antique-y" look. When I've started looking for patterns with small cap-sleeves it leads me back to like 1940s/50s era.
Anyways... lots to chat about and it would be good to just hang out for awhile!
