A little purse I whipped up yesterday for a birthday present.

I started with a 15" x 8" rectangle of plain cotton broadcloth.  Sat down at the machine with my scrap bags and several colors of thread and pieced it randomly, turning the raw edges under by hand, until my cloth was covered.

I trimmed the excess, pressed it, lined it with black striped cotton, and folded it in uneven thirds to make a purse part and a flap part.  I used the machine blanket stitch to sew the sides together and added a button and buttonhole for a closure.  The strap is a 1" wide petersham ribbon which I folded in half and stitched together.

This was a fun little project.  I hope the recipient enjoys it.
