Nearly done

elizabeth_mnJust buttons and buttonholes left to do on my little girl's Victorian dress.
It ended up being based on a ‘sack apron’ from the 1882 Butterick pattern book reprint. I added a wider hem ruffle, and cut it on the bias, but otherwise, it’s basically the same. So I made it as a dress, not an apron, but really, when the apron looks just like a dress, what’s the difference? It has the gathered skirt back with a sash.
I am starting to get the dropped waist thing, a little. A wide hem ruffle on a tiny person has basically the same effect as a dropped waist.
It looks like the neckline is sticking up funny here, but when it’s on her, it really doesn’t seem to.
Setting the tiny sleeves in was a total nightmare. I’ll admit, I’m usually pretty arrogant about sleeves. I don’t understand what the big problem is. But these were just so freaking itty-bitty! 1/8” off was enough to screw up the whole thing. I could barely get them under the machine. But after 6 or 7 tries, they’re on there, and I am not doing them again.
The unders are based on her modern dress and pants patterns. I used elastic in the drawers because I needed to keep her comfortable and keep them from falling down. They look so short! But they actually seem kind of long when she's wearing them.
The chemise kind of turned into a petticoat because the ruffle came out way bigger than expected.

So far I think she likes it a lot. We've had to do maybe 3 or 4 fittings and she seems quite excited! High praise from a not-quite-2 year old.
