Spring quilt
Jan. 30th, 2011 10:24 amHere’s my test quilt block.

I like it. This is actually Plan A. Plan B had a brief run when I thought that the dots in Plan A were too large to work as a background, so I bought some super-cute floral, which I still really love and want to use in a future quilt, but that really did not go with my other fabrics. When I started cutting, I realized the block is big enough that the dots would mostly stay intact, so I went back to Plan A.
The blue (star) fabric is Sugar Pop from Moda, and I have it in yellow-green for the other half of the blocks; the dots are a Robert Kaufman print. God, I love using designer fabrics! I know that sounds uppity, but really with the prices on cotton prints at Jo-Ann these days, it’s not even like buying designer from the independent shop sets you back that much more, and they are just so pretty and such nice quality.
The Sugar Pop is directional, but I’m ignoring that. I know in my block, you can see that the print is going all different directions, and I have to admit it bugs me a little, but I also know that if I try to make the print go all the same way I will go insane. So I won’t.
Here’s a shot of the quilt pattern, from Material Obsession. I plan to enlarge the quilt to 25 blocks instead of the 15 pictured so it will fit a queen bed. (I know, crazy, right? I actually want to sleep under my own quilts!)

I’ve started rotary-cutting my fabrics now, and boy does that ever make it feel final! I have maybe an hour more cutting before I can dive into the sewing.
