done cutting, mostly
Jan. 31st, 2011 02:48 pmAll my beautiful quilt fabrics have now been reduced to this:

This is the scary part. If I cut everything correctly, these pieces will somehow be able to become a lovely quilt. If I didn’t, then I have a big, worthless pile of tiny, expensive scraps.
I need to run out and get an additional 1/4 yard of the blue. I am short about 4 sashing strips, even if I piece my scraps, which I am doing anyway.
The cutting directions for the sashing are a little wasteful. I guessed at fabric quantities when buying because I am making more blocks than the pattern calls for, and I did fall a little short, but I think I would have made it if I’d cut in a different order.
The books says to cut the sashing last. If I had cut the sashing first, I could have used the 10” strip leftover from cutting two 15” strips from a 45” width to cut the square and triangle block pieces, eliminating waste and the need to have random seams in my sashing. I should have read the directions a little better before starting!
Btw, how awesome is rotary cutting? This only took me a few hours to do! I can't imagine having to do this with scissors.
