Yesterday we made a totally spontaneous decision to go to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. It was the last day of the season, our timing wasn't great, and I was fighting off a minor cold, but the weather was beautiful and I couldn't resist.
The part about the timing came to bite us when we spent over 2 hours in traffic getting there, when it takes 45 minutes if you leave the Cities at 8:00 am. Note to self: Yes, it really was worth it waking up at the crack of dawn for all these years!
Taking F out there is so much more fun now that she is 4. It's only her 2nd year there, but I think she enjoyed it even more. She was SO EXCITED that there was a ride. It was butterfly swings for small people.

I LOVED the fact that there was a guy pushing this thing to make it go. He was so nice to all the kids, too.
The Herpetological Society has a great setup out there every year. We saw cute turtles and petted some snakes.

Yes, this turtle is pulling a wagon. I have mixed feelings about this.

We watched Dr. Thora Pandora's Science Show. Lots of fun with bubbles and dry ice for the kids.

Popover was the favorite food of the day.

She got a crown this year, which I have promised to be-ribbon for her. Here she is wearing it while also making this dragon breathe fire at me. However, she assures me the fire will not hurt me since I am pure of heart; I must only watch out for the tail. Her dad totally gave her this line.

We heard lots of lovely music, did lots of great people-watching, and saw a guy juggle flaming sticks, while standing on a ladder, which was on a tightrope, both of which were also ON FIRE! Plus many other things we unfortunately did not get photos of. I chatted with old friends, met a friend's new baby, did a little dancing, and just enjoyed the family time.

I loved these mustaches. Enough said.

Costume was the same as last year for F, since she still fitted into it. I wore that orange dress again. My HB wore his outfit from several years ago instead of last year's. It has issues (like being make of upholstery brocade) but I do love the pants. Or whatever you call them.

So glad we went!
