There are a couple fun costume things happening in the next few weeks in the Twin Cities:

Sept. 29th: Living History Society is hosting a "Slice of the Season Hop."  An informal dance, with pie!  Civil War era attire is encouraged.  Admission is $10 plus one pie, or $15 if you don't have a pie. No pre-registration required.   www.lhsmn.org for more info.

Oct. 13th: Victorian Society's Autumn Masked Ball.  Looks like $40 for members and $50 for non-members.  Register by Oct. 1st! www.northstarvsa.com for more info.

When I asked my husband if he wanted to go to the LHS dance, he said he is tired of wearing the same Victorian suit all the time (!!!).  At first I thought "Crap!  Now I need to make him some new clothes!" but then after a while I remembered that I should really be glad he is interested in costume.  And I know it's only a matter of time before I can talk him into some plaid 1860s pants. I'm determined - it will happen.

Anyway, finishing a couple big projects makes me want to refresh and re-organize my sewing project list.  Here's what I hope to do in the next couple months.

For the rest of September

- New collar and cuffs on HB's Victorian dress shirt (they have always fitted just a bit too tightly, and the collar always slips off - I'm just going to make it permanently attached.)
- Finish 1 pair of HB organic-denim jeans
- Black pinstripe vest for HB (for everyday wear)

October

- Coat for my black modern suit (I haven't forgotten this poor little thing!)
- New sleeves on blue ballgown bodice (to go with my wedding dress skirts) for Autumn Ball
- A few new fall/winter wool skirts for everyday, including finishing that weird red teen-ish one from last spring
- Finish that red corset I never finished for the Fair
- Start a Victorian dress coat for HB, finish by 12th night ball

The dress coat is the big scary project that I've had the fabric for for 3 years and have been avoiding for even longer than that.  Tailoring is scary!  It took me almost a month to make the frock coat for his wedding suit.  For the dress coat I plan on using the Laughing Moon frock coat pattern as a base, because I know it fits him already, and altering it based on some of the diagrams in The Cut of Men's Clothes.

Some time in the future, I also plan to make a new frock coat and the aforementioned plaid pants for the HB, a couple new ties and vests for him, and probably a new ball dress for me (maybe for 12th night?).

Then there's also my random embroidery and knitting projects, but they don't really have deadlines.  I still want to finish the pillow I didn't finish for the Fair, and I have the pretty pink yarn to make another winter hat with.
