We had such a lovely time last weekend at our picnic! We had 20 people altogether (21 if you count the baby!) which is an amazing turnout, considering that 18th century is not nearly so popular here as it is other places.

We arrived at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum around 11. The gardens were already mobbed. We found a shady spot and laid out our picnics.

Debbie was period perfect in her handsewn shortgown.

Gary, Sue, and Erin had such an amazing setup, with china, pottery, and homemade period-appropriate food.

Marty looked absolutely charming in her Regency era gown from Patterns of Fashion.

We had a couple ladies, Jessica and Susan, drive from near Menomonie, Wisconsin! That's a long morning's drive! We were so happy to have them.

I adore this picture of the back of Riki's robe a la francaise.

My HB wore his navy blue wool suit again. It was a bit warm. He needs a linen one for hot weather. It's too bad because I think he looked quite dapper.

I brought some macarons and pound cake to share. F was very interested.

Brad and Laura brought their almost-one-year-old. She looked adorable!

We had a few latecomers - apparently there was some confusion about whether our start time was 1:00 or 11:00. Oops.

The gardens are breathtaking. Photos do not do them justice. There are very formal gardens with tidy gravel paths and elaborate fountains, and there are naturalistic native wildflower gardens, and everything in between. I really didn't get photos of some of the more lovely spots because we were having too much fun running around!

But we did manage to get plenty of goofy photos of ourselves.

I managed to get The Girl to sit nicely for at least one.

All my photos are in my Flickr album here. More have been shared on the facebook page for the event.

Of course, we were stopped constantly all day to explain why the heck we were dressed so funny. I know that folks mean well, but a few times it got to the point where we could no longer carry on a conversation for all the interruptions. Perhaps next time we will do this in a quieter spot? It was nice to be at the big arboretum, and we barely scratched the surface of all the things to do there, but I think we could easily amuse ourselves in a smaller park.

We had a fabulous time. I wish we could have stayed all day, but by 4:00, I was pooped. That hot sun just sucks the energy right out of you! Can't wait until our next one!

p.s. for the curious and dress-obsessed out there, I plan to spill all the dress details in a separate "new dress!!" post.

Looks awesome! Such a great group and beautiful gardens. And it looks like your hair turned out wonderfully!

I'm really hoping I can make it out there for an event next summer. :)

Thanks! Can you believe that giant pink silk francaise was Riki's first attempt at 18th century costume?

Aw! The Girl looked so cute! I hope she had fun. :) And your Mister looked fabulous, and of course you! I love the color you chose. You always get the most vivid colors and make them look just perfect!

I know what you mean about choosing the right spot so yall can enjoy your picnic without too many interruptions. A few questions are inevitable, but when they're incessant, it's no longer fun! It took us forever to find that little out of the way spot at the Botanic Gardens for our Georgian Picnic. Of course, I think this year we're moving it to a new park, so we'll have to find the right balance there.

You looked marvelous and your party looked like such fun! Sorry the muggles bugged you...that happens to our group, too, and it can really put a kink in the experience you are trying to have.

Your dress looks wonderful! It fits so well and I just love that vibrant color. The pic of you frolicing is the best.
