state fair

Last week we went to the MN State Fair. It is always fun and we had a pretty good time. I didn't take so many pictures as last year, but I got a few.
The creative activities just weren't as good this year as submissions seemed to be down in a lot of categories, especially garment sewing. But I did take photos of anything I recognized as being made of Treadle fabric!

And here is the Treadle Yard Goods award given to a classic wool coat. It was tough getting a picture through the glass!

They had this 19th century Russian room set up by some local Russian cultural group.

I loved this Mondrian-inspired Sesame Street quilt.

The Girl went on rides.

She is still pretty timid about the scary rides so the fun houses were a big hit this year.

We had lingonberry ice cream. So Minnesota. We love our Scandinavian thing.

At the International Bazaar, I got Holy Land falafel on a stick. Yum.

And I bought another little painted ornament. This is for when I like to pretend I am Swedish.

The beer hall. How did I not do this last year?

This is the Minnesota Craft Brewer's guild. They had 6 or so different tasting flights featuring four local beers in each. We got the hoppy one.

My HB is happy.

Here they had this great map of MN craft breweries.

Here is just the Twin Cities.

The best photo I could get of the list of breweries. It's also on their website.

In the center of the Horticulture building, they had these crazy machines. It's a spinning disc of flowers (real live and planted in dirt) with eyepieces you look through with kaleidoscopes in them!

Are these things new? I can't remember ever seeing them before! They are so cool.

Finally we saw some seed art.

There's never enough time to see (and eat and drink) everything! Good thing it comes around every year.
