Side hoops + new petticoat

I finished sewing on the ties this morning.
The linen/cotton fabric is kind of stiff and heavy, especially compared to my nice soft all-linen blue petticoat, but it's not so bad. I just don't like the color very much, but hey, it's a petticoat! Besides, it has just enough weight to pull the side hoops into the nice curve.
I followed Katherine's great instructions for leveling the petticoat from the waist, with measurements. I left a wide 4" hem allowance and finished it with the machine blind hem stitch.
The front and back each tie separately, leaving a nice pocket slit at each side.

I didn't have any twill tape for the ties yesterday, so I rode over to Treadle and found some absolutely lovely ones, but none plain enough for this. Instead I bought some cotton petersham. It's a little thicker than I would have liked, but soft enough to tie.

Since the top edge was folded over for the leveling, I didn't need to finish it with the ribbon. Instead I just pinked the raw edge before I pleated and sewed the ribbon to the outside only.

I'm not sure if pinking was ever used as a seam finish, but I didn't like to leave them raw.
I really love petticoats! Sometimes I think I like petticoats better than dresses!
