Stays!

Man, this project is taking forever!  I feel like I've been working on this for years.  But today I finished the binding (finally!) and now I just need to do buttons and buttonholes on the straps and I think they will be done.  

I couldn't resist putting them on and checking them out.

I don't have a proper chemise or shift and anyway after I finished the binding I was way too excited to change clothes before trying them on!

 

I don't know why my posture looks so tilted in the bottom right photo, I didn't think was leaning.  I wonder, is it supposed to make me stand like that?

  

Those tabs were really a pain, and I don't think I see much point to them anyway; they don't really spread out as I thought they would.  Oh well.  I'm pretty pleased with them, my first 18th c. project!

Wonderful! The tabs really add to the overall look of the corset. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do them myself. Good job.

Way to keep at it -- all your extra effort will pay off when you wear an 18th century gown made with just as much authenticity, and you'll see how PERFECTLY the two look together!

I know this is just plain silly, but I feel so much joy when people put just as much energy in their period under-garments as they do in their period outer-garments. I want to walk up to them and say, "Good for you! Thank you!"
...But then they would need some clarification, and I'd have to explain why I was congratulating them, and see that look of confusion and discomfort flash across their face...and that's something I'd like to avoid. :o)

So feel every ounce of pride when you sashay about your room in the full 18th century ensemble (once you finish it)...because no one ever fully appreciates it as much as the seamstress who made it! :o)

The stays look great, especially the tabs. I suppose they are meant to pad and protects your waist and hips. I'm sure the tabs will prove their worth when you are leaning, bending over, and wearing draw-string bloomers or normal-waist skirts (although you'll probably be wearing empire-waist dresses).

Way to go! :o)

They're really not entirely accurate; I did use a couple cheats like machine sewing, etc. but they are good enough for my purposes!

The dresses worn during the period from which this corset is made are a bit before empire style. They still have the long torso and the waist is at the natural waistline.
